New Subscription Service For Volvo XC40 Starts From $600 Per Month

Factoring in insurance, this seems like a decent price.

Subscription services could drastically change the way that people buy cars. Porsche recently announced its Passport service, which lets buyers choose from a range of cars for $3,000 per month. Volvo has also announced plans to start a subscription service, which was revealed alongside the all-new Polestar One. The idea of paying a subscription fee instead of actually owning a car is quite interesting, but these programs are still pretty new and are generally expensive. Volvo hopes to change that with its new service.

The Swedish automaker has just announced its new Care by Volvo subscription program. Volvo says that this new service makes owning a car as easy as having a cell phone. The first model that will be available in the program is the brand's newest small CUV, the XC40. The starting price to own a new XC40 on this program is $600 per month, before local taxes and fees. This may sound like a bit much for a small CUV, but Care by Volvo does include "insurance, service, maintenance and basically everything except gas,” said Anders Gustafsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car USA. Buyers will be able to start the negotiation-free process online without having to worry about down payments, maintenance or insurance.

Two trim levels of the XC40 will be offered. The lower trim is a XC40 T5 AWD Momentum with the premium Package, vision package, heated seats and steering wheel, panoramic roof and 19-inch black wheels for $600 per month. The R-Design costs $700 per month and adds Harman Kardon premium sound and 20-inch wheels. This program will also include 24/7 customer care and concierge services, including roadside assistance. The length of the program is 24 months, with an option to change cars after 12 months.

Care by Volvo customers will be allowed 15,000 miles per year with tire and wheel damage protection, wear-and-tear replacements including wipers and brakes, and all factory-scheduled maintenance. Every car will also be covered under Liberty Mutual Insurance. Customers can sign up for the service now, with XC40 deliveries set for next spring.
