We've hear reports that VW is creating a Passat specially designed for the Chinese market, and it comes as no surprise that it will have a stretched wheelbase. Reports from China Car Times state that the larger version of the next-generation Passat will be about 4.5-inches longer than the sedan that'll be found in other markets. This is being done to allow for a roomier back seat, something that's always welcomed.

China is becoming known as a booming market for luxury brand vehicles, and the stretched version of the Passat just makes sense for them since there exists a bigger group of customers eager to drive a luxury vehicle that's also fun. The stretched version will also be welcomed in China since the sedan is used as a livery vehicle, so the extra 4.5-inche will come in handy. The Passat will be built in China, and will reportedly be arriving in early 2011.
