The facelifted European Passat is now available in R-Line trim.
In case you weren't aware, Volkswagen offers an independent trim level dubbed 'R-Line,' which is not to be confused with the automaker's line of thoroughbred 'R' models. And it's the European version of the facelifted VW Passat that is the latest model series to adopt the R-Line trim (the Polo was the previous recipient), which on the sedan and Estate sits somewhere between the mid-level 'Comfortline' and the top-of-the-line 'Highline' versions.
The Passat R-Line is distinguished by a new front bumper with a larger cooling air inlet and integrated fog lights, side sills with chrome accent, R-Line badges and a revised rear bumper with black diffuser and chrome tailpipes and trim. The sedan gets a boot spoiler, while the Estate gets one for the roof as well as silver roof rails. 17-inch 'Mallory' alloys with optional 18s complete the look, and both models also get a sports tuned suspension that lowers the height by 15mm. The cabin benefits from bespoke upholstered sport seats, dashboard and door panels in decorative silver trim, and a flat-bottom, leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel.
Prices for the Passat R-Line begin at €30,225 in Germany. An optional R-Line Design package, including front & rear bumpers, spoiler and R-Line badges, costs €990, aimed at those that prefer the Comfortline or Highline trim grades.
