The 2012 Mazda3 was officially presented at the opening of the 2011 New York Auto Show. This also marked the first production use of the long-awaited SkyActiv engine. This translates to the new Mazda3 being able to produce 40 mpg on the highway thanks to the new SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine. Before the SkyActiv, the Mazda3 was only good up to 33 mpg in its most efficient form.
The new 2.0-liter, direct-injection four-cylinder is also able to produce 155-horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the new and efficient drivertrain, the 2012 Mazda3 has received some exterior updates. Updates include redesigned headlights and an adjusted front fascia with a slightly different grille that tones down the trademark grin.
