What we really want to see is a new RS4.
Recently caught by our spy photographers testing in Southern Europe, the next generation Audi A4 has some significant competition to overcome. (We're thinking of you, 3 Series). As usual with Audi design, the new A4’s styling will be more of an evolution rather than revolution. However, the wheelbase has been lengthened along with shorter overhangs to allow for greater interior space. The front grille will resemble the design of the new TT’s. Note that the side mirrors have moved to the doors from the side windows.
Overall, the 2016 A4 will drop between 175-220 lbs. compared to the existing model. That can partially be attributed to its new platform, VW Group’s MLB. Powertrain wise, we should see the return of a range of gasoline and diesel engines. A plug-in hybrid is also very likely and a high-performance RS variant is a given. Expect for the new Audi A4 to have its official debut next September at the Frankfurt Auto Show.
