As manufacturers move from winter testing to flogging their latest models on the Nurburgring, we have the first spy shots of the next-generation Audi R8 caught during the first industry day of the 2014 test season. The new R8 is heavily tipped to share a platform with the Lamborghini Huracan, and thanks to its combined aluminum and carbon-fiber structure the next-gen R8 will shave up to 200 pounds off its curb weight.

Similar to what Audi has done with the 2015 TT coupe, the R8 will be more angular in design but its slick coupe profile won't change too much. As for power, rumors suggest the base motor will be a variant of the twin-turbo V8 found in the RS6, RS7 and S8. However, there's still a chance Audi will continue with the popular 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8. A V10 will continue to serve as the upmarket engine, with both units mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.
