Next-Gen Mini Cooper JCW to Have 230-HP

Rumor / Comments

Of course it'll be more powerful than the previous model.

The all-new Mini Cooper is here, so it's time to start thinking about the upcoming high-performance John Cooper Works edition. Compared to the previous generation, Mini will make the new JCW even more powerful, but exactly how much horsepower are we talking about here? According to Autocar, that'll be around 230 ponies. Likely to be unveiled sometime before 2016, the next Mini Cooper JCW will feature a new 2.0-liter direct injection engine that'll churn out roughly 230 hp.

The outgoing Cooper JCW, for comparison, is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter with 215-hp. This new 2.0 unit will eventually find its way under the hoods of the all other JCW models. It'll also be utilized by parent company BMW for some of its future models. Like the current JCWs, the 2.0-liter engine will be paired to a either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
