Acura is currently at work developing the next generation RL large sedan. The current car is mediocre, at best, in terms of both looks and performance. It's not a bad car, but it falls short in just about every category against the competition. What to do? How about change it from competing against large flagships like the Lexus LS, BMW 7 Series, and the Mercedes S Class to the latest in the four-door luxury coupe segment.
The RL was never formidable against those flagship heavyweights, but with the rising popularity of four-door luxury coupes such as the Mercedes CLS, Acura believes they've found a proper market. Another question is its powertrain. Being Honda's luxury brand, there's a good chance the RL will debut a new full-hybrid system that's mated to a V6 engine and uses the SH-AWD system. Technically, the RL sounds promising. However, let's hope Acura ends their current styling trend, which reminds me of a Gillette Mach 3 razor. Photos displayed are of the 2009 Acura RL
