Although it's not due out for its first public showing until this fall's Frankfurt Auto Show, the 2012 Porsche 911 is full of details that are too good to pass up. The details are specifically surrounding the 911 GT3 that's not expected to arrive until after the Carerra it's based on. Sources cite that the power output will be raised to 480-horsepower through a 3.8-liter 9A1 engine. It will also be equipped with a dual-clutch PDK-S transmission.

However, it's still not clear if it will be an option or a replacement for the six-speed manual. Other details include a significant drop in weight, approximately 180-200 pounds, due to the use of composite materials. In order to improve the car's balance and harmony, engineers will also be moving the engine forward, effectively turning the car into a mid-engine layout. There's still plenty of time until Frankfurt, so Porsche can always change things around.
