We were quite disappointed when Subaru released the BRZ tS and not the much desired BRZ STI. Hopefully the latter will come one day soon, but for now we can at least look forward to the next-generation WRX and STI, both due to debut at LA in November. While that venue was highly expected, what's just been confirmed is that the five-door hatchback WRX/STI won't return. The current-gen hatch simply never caught on the way Subaru had hoped.

The sedan-only all-wheel drive rally-inspired model will once again have that trademark rear wing along with plenty of other STI styling goodies. Power for the STI will come from a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four that'll be good for around 265 horsepower. We do expect for the final production version to resemble the WRX Concept revealed last March at Geneva, and hopefully Subaru won't water down the styling too much.
