One of the first cars to start the four-door coupe craze will soon be given a complete redesign. The Volkswagen CC, which happens to be based on the previous-gen Passat, is due to be replaced within the next few years, and it may once again start something new for the mid-size sedan segment. Motor Trend is reporting that VW is seriously considering giving the next CC a fastback roof design, similar to that of the Audi A7.

What's more is that the next CC could potentially be built in North America. The reason for this is because of increased import costs and a high Euro-dollar exchange rate. If VW does in fact go with the fastback design, it'll follow another new model that has made the same change: the 2015 Hyundai Genesis. No final design decision has yet been made, but VW will definitely either continue with the four-door coupe styling or make the next CC a poor man's A7.
