A high-performance mid-size pickup? Yes, please.
Up until 2014, the Nissan Navara and Frontier were the same pickup truck. The former name was for the Australian and other overseas markets. But Nissan unveiled a completely redesigned Navara this year, leaving the US stuck with the outdated Frontier, which dates back to 2004. Lucky us. Anyway, Australian publication CarAdvice recently attended the Nismo Festival in Japan and had the opportunity to chat with Nismo sales and marketing boss, Darren Cox.
While the 370Z and Juke were the obvious topics of conversation, the new Navara was also brought up as a potential Nismo project. Cox believed it would definitely be an interesting project. "Nismo has to be a credible production car from Nissan that's sporty and therefore we study the implications of that, a pickup could be an interesting product because of its global nature when we go into other markets." A Nismo-tuned mid-size pickup? May sound a bit strange but then again Nismo did modify the Juke so anything is possible. And, by the way, we're still waiting for a proper Frontier redesign.
