Australia is home to some of the most rough and rugged terrain in the world. 50 years ago, Reg Sprigg drove a 1960 G60 Patrol across the Simpson Desert, setting a milestone in achievement as the first vehicle to make the trek across the Outback successfully. Nissan is commemorating the occasion with a special edition Patrol car, re-enacting Sprigg's feat in July with a restored G60 and finishing with a celebratory get-together in Queensland.

The Nissan Simpson 50th Anniversary Edition Patrol is based on the fifth-generation of the SUV and features SatNav, bullbar, driving lights, roof bars, hood protector, air guide, reversing camera, stainless-steel wheel cover and a 41-liter cool box, amongst other things. In total, Nissan says the special edition carries over $8,000 worth of extra equipment. The best part about the special edition, however, is that pricing will stay the same. It runs AUS $56,990 with the manual transmission and $59,990 for an automatic gearbox. The great deal won't last forever though, as Nissan is limiting production to only 500 units.
