Meet Brian Murphy, a delivery driver from Chicago. Back in 2007, he made a pledge upon purchasing a then-new Nissan Frontier: put a million miles on it. Thirteen years later that goal has been accomplished. Nissan has since gotten word of this achievement and wasted no time letting the world know about it. "I had no doubt this truck would hit a million miles. It's tough and gets great fuel economy, exactly what I need to get the job done," said Murphy. During the work week, he's up before dawn and often returns home 13 hours later.

He drives his RWD, six-speed manual, 2.5-liter four-cylinder-powered Frontier as an independent delivery driver, though this wasn't his original career. He retired from the corporate world 16 years ago and began his delivery career the same year the Frontier was built.

He has never used GPS nor received any moving violations. And through it all, the truck has performed flawlessly, but that doesn't mean it hasn't gone without regular maintenance. "I change my own oil every 10,000 miles and drive carefully. Nothing major has been replaced on this truck, it's really something."

He claims the original clutch lasted for 801,000 miles, and the timing chain was replaced as a preventative measure at 700,000 miles. The radiator and alternator each survived for 450,000 miles. The driver's seat was also swapped out at 500,000 miles.

According to Murphy, he drives an average of 77,000 miles per year, compared to the average of 15,859 miles annually for a man his age, according to data from the US Department of Transportation. On January 27, 2020, the Frontier's digital odometer finally stopped rolling once it hit 999,999 miles, though the trip odometer continues to function, which now shows the truck's 1 million-mile status and counting.

"My truck deserves to rest, but I've got to keep busy," said Murphy.
