Nissan plans to build its new compact car based on the recently unveiled Etherea concept car. The new compact is expected to keep the sloped roof design along with the hatchback rear and most of the body proportions. In addition to being front-wheel-drive, the compact is also expected to use a turbocharged 4-cylinder variation of the 204hp 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder 'CGI' used in the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The platform being developed for the car will be recycled at least twice.

The platform will be used for the next generation Renault Megane and a new Nissan compact. The Nissan Leaf platform will also be used for an Infiniti electric car that will join the new compact. The compact is part of Nissan's "Power 88" program, which outlines their business plan over the next six years. They want to increase their global market share to eight percent by 2017 and want an eight percent increase in operating profit. Infiniti plans to release a new or updated model every six months over the next six years, leading to at least 10 new or updated motels between by 2017.

In total, they want to have a presence in 71 global markets compared to the current 36. The new Infiniti electric car will be available a year after the 2013 Infiniti JX crossover goes on sale. The JX is scheduled for next spring. Photos displayed are of 2011 Infiniti Etherea Concept
