Nissan Z Stars In New Super Bowl Ad

Game Day is not far off now.

Nissan has released its full, one-minute-long Super Bowl commercial early this year, only a few days after the teaser's release. Featuring the one and only Eugene Levy, co-creator and star of Schitt's Creek, the central theme is about transforming one's attitude when driving a car. In this case, the new Nissan Z and all-electric Ariya crossover. Levy is joined by his Schitt's Creek co-star, the always brilliant Catherine O'Hara, along with Danai Gurira, Dave Bautista, and a special appearance by Nissan Brand Ambassador Brie Larson.

Called "Thrill Driver," the commercial opens with Levy enjoying his morning cup of coffee when Larson tempts him to take a spin in the new 2023 Z. This requires very little persuasion and Levy is soon driving through Los Angeles at a modest speed. Then the thrill kicks into gear.

Before things really get going, he pulls up alongside a surprised O'Hara who's driving an Ariya. Levy then passes Gurira and Bautista sitting outside. Both are surprised to see a guy like Levy driving a twin-turbo V6-powered sports car. Levy's imagination then goes into high gear and the action film "Thrill Driver" kicks off. Suddenly, Levy has cool sunglasses, long hair, knuckle tattoos, black leather jacket, and a five o'clock shadow. Gurira and Bautista are now his co-stars and the action is underway. "Cock-a-doodle-do" is all Levy has to say just before beginning some serious stunt driving.

The commercial ends with a packed movie theater watching the film's premiere. Levy is now a badass, or so he thinks; Larson refuses to hand over the Z's keys again.

"It was a big decision for us to get back into this game; the timing was perfect to put the 'new' Nissan on a bigger stage," said Allyson Witherspoon, vice president and chief marketing officer for Nissan US. "This ad takes Nissan's Thrill campaign to the next level. We have an incredible cast, it is beautifully produced, and it is action packed. We wanted to show how one ride in a Nissan can truly change everything. This is a launching point for the Nissan Ariya and Z, and we will make a big splash on this global stage."
