No Fiesta RS For Now

Hot Hatch

Hoping for Ford to build a Fiesta RS? Don't get your hopes up because the plan is for only one RS-badged car at a time and the Focus RS is coming soon.

Ford is expected to announce the green light for the Focus RS in the near future. Even more potent than Focus ST, the RS will be powered by a new EcoBoost turbo four that will also be shared with the upcoming 2014 Mustang. Unlike with the previous-generation Focus RS, US hot hatch enthusiasts will be able to get their hands on this one. With an expected arrival date sometime in 2015, there’s been speculation that Ford may decide to expand its RS lineup even further.

So could a Fiesta RS be in the pipeline? The short answer is not anytime soon. Ford’s president of marketing in Europe, Roelant de Waard, told Autocar the automaker will more than likely never offer more than one RS-badged performance model for sale at one time. According to de Waard, "Our focus now is on the Mustang, but over time there is always room for RS products...but I would be surprised if there was more than one at the same time. What is clear is that the RS shouldn’t be a series, or a car badge that we have in our portfolio all the time. It is an extreme car – something more than ST."
