Ah yes, the everlasting joys of U.S. Presidential primaries. Despite the colorful cast of characters, Republican candidates are focusing many of their attacks not only on the Detroit automaker bailouts, but also on a particular model, the Chevy Volt. And now Newt Gingrich, who suspiciously looks like an AARP card-carrying Jabba the Hut lookalike, has stated in a speech that "You can't put a gun rack in a Volt...We believe in the right to bear arms and we like to bear the arms in our trucks."

Not only has a GM spokesperson clarified that it is in fact possible for a gun rack to fit, but one Volt owner has responded as well. In the short video seen here, this owner proves Gingrich wrong, though he risks being frozen in carbonite. The GM spokesperson further pointed out that the Volt is a sedan and when was "the last time you saw a gun rack in ANY sedan?"

The owner continued: "In response to Newt Gingrich's cheap shots at the American designed, American made, and American powered Chevrolet Volt, claiming you couldn't put a gun rack in the back...I prove he doesn't know what he's talking about," showing that Gingrich's comments were nothing more than a load of Bantha fodder for his constituents. Gingrich received a hearty applause from the audience following his comments, but we doubt that current GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson, a longtime Republican, shares their enthusiasm.
