NSU Ro 80 For Sale: Own a Mint-Condition Piece of Wankel Rotary History

Classic Cars

Not the first, but still very important.

It was in 1964 that NSU (one of the Auto Union brands, eventually absorbed by Audi) brought out the world's first Wankel-powered car, called simply the Spider. The followup, the Ro 80 came in 1967, the same year that Mazda brought out its first rotary car. Though Mazda would obviously end up having more success with rotary cars, the Ro 80 was the big standout technological powerhouse of early rotary cars.

As with basically every rotary car before the RX-8, reliability issues would keep sales low, so the car you see for sale here is really quite valuable.
