The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will be receiving a number of important updates to its engine lineup, as well as an active exhaust, and trim packages. The Silverado EV has received the bulk of attention lately, but the gas-powered version is still the bowtie brand's bread and butter.

The 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four engine has officially received a new name: TurboMax. Chevy says the TurboMax will be available across the Silverado lineup, from WT to LT Trail Boss. Output remains unchanged with a best-in-class 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, and the optional 9,500-pound Max Tow package. Also available in the midsize Colorado, Chevy confirmed the TurboMax name changeover will happen soon.

"TurboMax is built like a diesel: it's durable and packs turbocharged performance to win over both diesel and V8 customers alike," said Kevin Luchansky, assistant chief engineer for the 2.7L Turbo Engine. "The TurboMax name encapsulates the modern engineering, manufacturing and controls which shuts the door on arguments against turbocharged engines from decades ago."

Moving up the ladder, the '24 Silverado ZR2 can be optioned with the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel inline-six as an alternative to the 6.2-liter V8. The 10-speed automatic remains the sole transmission option. Chevy points out that the ZR2 is the only light-duty off-road truck to offer a diesel with this amount of power (495 lb-ft of awesome low-end torque) in its class. Chevy is also not letting that 6.2-liter V8 go untouched.

For the new model year, that engine will come with a throatier active dual exhaust, something owners will benefit from while changing drive modes: Normal, Tow/Haul and Sport. Other upcoming model year changes include a Black Appearance Package, which will be optional on the Silverado Custom, Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT Trail Boss and ZR2, and the new Silverado High Country Midnight Edition.

Additional Silverado lineup updates include two new exterior color choices, Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Slate Gray Metallic and a rear seat belt indicator. The Work Truck (WT) receives some loving by way of now-standard OnStar, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a Safety Package with front and rear park assist. The High Country trim, as we mentioned above, also gets standard adaptive cruise control and an available Midnight Edition, featuring power-retractable assist black steps with LED lighting.

Updated 2024 pricing has not been announced at this time, nor has an official on-sale date. In all likelihood, sales will get underway in late summer or early fall.
