More details regarding the company's hybrid SUV.
Hybrid SUVs are becoming a widespread phenomenon, with automakers from Toyota to Rolls Royce all joining in on the trend. BMW is the latest carmaker to join the party and is ready to unveil its X5 eDrive concept to the American public. The company already showed this car at last year’s Frankfurt show, but it will be making its American debut at this week’s New York Auto Show.
The X5 eDrive features a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine rated at 245 horsepower, mated to an electric motor delivering 95hp. The lithium-ion battery can power the heavy SUV for 20 miles and at speeds of up to 75 mph. All of this efficiency doesn’t come at the cost of performance, as the X5 can sprint from 0- 62 mph in seven seconds flat, just about the same as its 3.0-liter diesel brethren.
