BMW will make first deliveries of its hybrid sports car in June, with 4.4-second 0-62 mph times confirmed.
The all-new i8 hybrid sports car will enter production next month, with first customers taking delivery of the car as early as June, BMW says. The company has released a full list of specs for the European i8 – including impressive gas mileage numbers (on European combined cycle) of 112 mpg. For everyday commuting and with a fully-charged battery, BMW promises mileage of 47 mpg or better. The car’s top speed will be 155 mph, while electric mode offers a 75 mph top-speed and a 23-mile range.
The car’s hybrid system sends power to the rear wheels from the car’s 231 hp 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, while the electric motor – rated at 131 hp – will move the front wheels. European customers will be the first to receive the car, but it should arrive in the US in the second half of 2014 as a 2015 model. Official pricing for the i8 has base prices at $135,925 including destination.
