BMW will make first deliveries of its hybrid sports car in June, with 4.4-second 0-62 mph times confirmed.
The all-new i8 hybrid sports car will enter production nextmonth, with first customers taking delivery of the car as early as June, BMWsays. The company has released a full list of specs for the European i8 –including impressive gas mileage numbers (on European combined cycle) of112 mpg. For everyday commuting and with a fully-charged battery, BMW promisesmileage of 47 mpg or better. The car’s top speed will be 155 mph, while electricmode offers a 75 mph top-speed and a 23-mile range.
The car’s hybrid system sends power to the rear wheels fromthe car’s 231 hp 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, while the electric motor – ratedat 131 hp – will move the front wheels. European customers will be thefirst to receive the car, but it should arrive in the US in the second half of 2014as a 2015 model. Official pricing for the i8 has base prices at $135,925including destination.
