BMW has officially launched the most fuel-friendly version of the 5-Series ever. It returns 62.8 mpg at the pump and it's not a hybrid. Yes, you heard correctly, 62.8 mpg. Sadly, it's not (as of now) coming to the US and will be sold in Europe only. The BMW 520d Efficient Dynamics 5-Series is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission, giving a total performance output of 181hp and 280lb-ft of torque.

This new engine is an all-aluminum lightweight unit featuring Variable Twin Turbo two-stage turbocharging and common rail-diesel injection. Due to ithe latest technology of the small turbocharger, there's also a quicker response time and comes on stream at low engine speeds. The 520d Efficient Dynamics will also include a stop-start system, low rolling resistance tires, brake-energy recuperation and a longer final drive ratio. The new Drive Dynamic Control allows the driver to adjust the car's ride and handling characteristics to their personal tastes.

Other new features include Active Protection, which closes the side windows and sunroof while also tightening the seat belts in case it detects a potential collision. There are additional upgrades available to the optional night vision and head-up display as well. Pricing for the BMW 520d Efficient Dynamics begins at £30,435.
