Most powerful McLaren ever made will carry a price tag of £1.98m.
McLaren has announced the track-only variant of its hybrid hypercar will be dubbed the McLaren P1 GTR. Resurrecting the iconic name from the legendary Le Mans winning F1 GTR, the P1 GTR “will be designed and developed as the best drivers’ car in the world on track.” It will also be the most powerful McLaren ever built with the P1’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 powerplant pushed to deliver 986 hp. Increased performance will be matched by enhanced levels of grip, aerodynamics and downforce.
Race-proven slick tires, a widened track and more aggressive styling will also be featured. Built in response to the demand of McLaren P1 owners, the track-only variant will be priced at £1,980,000 and be sold exclusively to P1 owners. Each customer will become part of the GTR program, receiving consultations with McLaren’s design director Frank Stephenson, access to F1 driving simulators, and a minimum of six dedicated track days at F1 circuits across the world. The limited-run model will enter production after the completion of the 375th and final P1 road car. Production numbers have yet to be determined.
