Fisker has announced that its all-new Ocean Extreme has achieved an EPA-estimated range figure of 360 miles, blowing every electric SUV priced under $200,000 out of the water.

That's a remarkable achievement and surpasses the manufacturer's own estimates. Earlier this year, Fisker said it expected the Ocean to achieve 350 miles on the stringent EPA test cycle, so to attain an additional 10 miles is exceptional.

For consumers, electric range is a significant consideration when purchasing an EV. Aside from funky styling and a classy interior, the Ocean Extreme now has a genuinely unique selling point. To put the 360-mile figure into perspective, the Tesla Model Y Long Range has a maximum range of 330 miles. The larger Model X, which is $30,000 more than the Ocean Extreme, can only manage 348 miles.

Company founder and CEO Henrik Fisker was delighted with the results. "A lot of hard work went into achieving these results, and it feels great to give our customers a better range than we had estimated," he said.

"Delivering an EPA 360-mile range in the US and WLTP 707 km range in Europe gives our drivers what they want: a fantastic 5-passenger vehicle, and the confidence they're driving the electric SUV with the longest range available in an affordable new vehicle," added the CEO.

In March, the Ocean Extreme achieved equally impressive results on the European WLTP cycle, with a 439-mile claimed range. As a reminder, the WLTP figures tend to overestimate the range by 10% or so. The EPA takes a more cautious approach and often understates an EV's range for a more realistic figure.

"This is a huge milestone for everyone at Fisker," said the CEO. "We are looking forward to getting Oceans to customers in the US, and we plan to send out communications today to our first customers." Deliveries of the electric SUV commenced last month, with the first example delivered at the company's Fisker Center+ facility in Copenhagen.

More affordable models, equipped with more compact battery packs, will also be made available. Priced from $37,499, the Ocean should scare the more established manufacturers, especially considering that even base models should achieve 250 miles on a single charge.

Let's not forget that the cheaper and more compact Pear is also on the way. Sadly, the entry-level model has been pushed back to 2025 and, sadly, won't come in under the $30,000 mark
