It has officially begun. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV truck is now rolling off the Factory ZERO assembly line in Detroit, Michigan. Customer deliveries are due to begin any day now. The reborn Hummer EV is a huge deal not only for GMC but for General Motors as a whole. It's the first vehicle to ride on its also new Ultium dedicated EV architecture.

This flexible platform will also serve as the basis for a wide range of upcoming vehicles, among them the Chevy Silverado EV and the just-teased GMC Sierra EV. Today, however, it's the Hummer Edition 1 that deserves the spotlight.

"We brought this truck to market with speed and agility and brought GM another step closer to an all-electric future," said GM President Mark Reuss. "With our Ultium Platform as the foundation for a broad range of applications, the GMC HUMMER EV offers our customers the ultimate in capability and performance."

Hummer EV VIN 001 was sold last March at the annual Barrett-Jackson auction for $2.5 million. Full proceeds have been donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization honoring the memory of September 11 first responder Stephen Siller. It builds mortgage-free smart homes for seriously injured veterans. It also provides mortgage-free homes for Gold Star families and families of first responders who perished in the line of duty. The Edition 1, which sold out in a matter of hours in April, carries an MSRP of $110,295.

With up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, the Edition 1 also comes standard with four-wheel steering, aka Crab Walk, an adaptive air suspension, the Watts to Freedom acceleration feature allowing for a 0-60 mph time of about 3 seconds, and the Super Cruise driver-assist technology allowing for hands-free driving.

Those who missed out on the Interstellar White Edition 1 with the Lunar Horizon interior color shouldn't be too sad. GMC will gladly sell them any of the other Hummer EV trims. Reservations for those remain underway.
