Chevrolet confirms the new Corvette Z06 will debut this fall.
While Chevrolet is still struggling to keep up with demand for the C8 Corvette Stingray, the next chapter in the mid-engine sports car's story is about to begin. We've already seen prototypes of the new Corvette Z06 being put through its paces, and now Chevrolet has released the first official teaser to get us excited.
We don't see the new Z06 in the short teaser, but we get to clearly hear its sweet-sounding engine start-up, rev, and accelerate as the mid-engine sports car is driven at high speed on the road and track. It sounds epic: Chevrolet teases the "street will never sound the same."
Technical details are still being kept under wraps, but the high-pitched powerplant sounds like a supercar, seemingly confirming rumors that the new Z06 will be powered by a flat-plane crank V8.
Rumors have claimed the Z06 will utilize a modified version of the 5.5-liter V8 found in the C8.R race car. In the road car, this naturally-aspirated unit is expected to generate over 600 horsepower and rev up to 9,000 rpm, with power sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This won't be the most powerful C8 Corvette either, as the rumored Zora range-topper will reportedly pack a twin-turbo flat-plane crank V8 and a hybrid system generating over 1,000 horsepower.
As for the styling, expect the Z06 to look more aggressive than the standard Stingray. Over the last year, camouflaged prototypes have been spotted out in the wild sporting flared wheel arches and larger wheels. Originally, the Corvette Z06 was expected to debut this month and go on sale for the late 2022 model year, but the pandemic has delayed these plans.
Instead, Chevrolet has confirmed the next-generation Z06 will be revealed this fall and go on sale for the 2023 model year, and it sounds like it will be worth the wait.
