Coming a day or so earlier than expected, official photos of the newly redesigned 2012 Peugeot 208 have gone online. The 208 will be the replacement for the 207 and judging by these pictures, we like what we see. While it may at first more closely resemble a Citroen, the new 208 is shorter and lighter, but has even more interior space than the car it replaces. Power will come from a range of three-cylinder engines. Likely to be available at launch, the 1.0-liter has 66hp, while the 1.2-liter e-diesel will have 90hp.

What are still unknown are the details regarding the high-performance 208 GTI. More than likely, it will come with a 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine with around 200hp. Peugeot will also likely offer a detuned version simply called the 208 GT, which will have plenty of sporty trim features like the GTI, only with less power. Overall, the new 208 looks great in both three and five-door trims. It's nice to see the French automaker go with more curvy and - dare we say it - chic styling. Official specs will be available shortly, but for now enjoy the photos.
