Official Pictures and Road & Track's Feature on the Lexus LF-Lc Concept

The stakes are high for Lexus as they prepare to reveal their LF-Lc hybrid sports coupe concept at Detroit.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Road & Track featured exclusive leaked photos of Lexus's stunning new concept sports car that's heading to this year's Detroit Auto Show. And now they've been given yet another sneak preview of what Lexus hopes to be part of their continued corporate redesign. The LF-LC concept is all about style and its clear goal is to steer the brand away from its boring image.

According to Road & Track's feature story, Lexus gave designers a "clean sheet of paper" to design the concept, with the clear mission to "come up with a 2 +2 hybrid coupe concept to define Lexus' future design language." The only basic required design criteria were "avant-garde beauty, originality, driving joy and unequaled technology." Most importantly, Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda wanted the car to have the "wow" factor. Designers found their inspiration in nature, specifically in the "form of a tree leaf for its complex shape but also its flexibility to be sculpted into various flowing forms.

The front end design clearly evokes elements taken from both LFA supercar and the newly launched GS sedan. Combined with its muscular stance, flowing roofline, and large air scoops situated inside the rear fenders, the LF-LC concept is simply a breathtaking piece of modern automotive design. The interior is also equaling intriguing, with the sculpted front and rear seats wrapped in leather and accentuated with suede and contrasting stitching. There's also a multi-layer digital instrument panel that features "transparent OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) displays."

The big question is whether all of this is enough to give Lexus the rejuvenated image they're clearly working so hard to create. We'll find out soon enough from the floor of the Detroit Auto Show and the media and consumer reaction that will quickly follow. Photos courtesy of Road & Track.
