Volkswagen has officially launched the Passat BlueMotion, which is set to become one of the most fuel efficient four-door sedans in Europe. Under the hood, the Passat BlueMotion is powered by a 1.6-liter turbodiesel engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission with a generous output of 104hp. The Passat BlueMotion was rated at 57.4 mpg on the highway, making it extremely eco-friendly.

Some of the benefits of the turbodiesel engine are modified aerodynamics, stop-start technology, revised front grille, low rolling-resistance tires, underbody panel and a lower ride height. The European Passat is not the same as the one sold in the US, as the former is simply a major facelift of the previous generation. The US Passat is a completely new design. The four-door sedan starts at around £19,875 or $31,713 while the wagon begins at £21,180 or $33,795.

You can place an order for either of them now, but they won't make their way to VW showrooms in Europe until the the end of July.
