One Million Tesla Vehicles Expected To Get Major Sound System Update

Sources suggest Dolby Atmos and Apple Music will be introduced to the automaker's vehicles.

Tesla vehicles are expected to receive a welcome sound system update if the latest rumors are to be believed.

Sources told BGR that the automaker is getting ready to introduce Dolby Atmos to new and existing vehicles, after consulting with several record labels for months. More than one million existing Tesla models are expected to benefit from the software update, plus all newly-manufactured examples.

It makes sense that Tesla would want this technology in its vehicles, as rival brand Lucid implemented the technology in the Air luxury sedan last year, making it the first car in the world to have integrated the feature.

Dolby Atmos has made quite a splash in the automotive industry and can be found in other high-end cars like the new Volvo EX90, the Lotus Eletre, and the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV, to name a few.

Atmos technology makes use of height channels that interpret sounds as 3D objects and provide a richer, more immersive listening experience. It's not the only update Tesla owners are hoping for, though.

As per the report, it seems the integration of Apple Music is also in the works. A Twitter user recently spotted the streaming service on a Model S infotainment screen while the vehicle was on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum.

While BGR's source was unable to confirm this, it's possible that Apple's Spatial Audio technology may support Dolby Atmos. Neither of these additions has been announced by Tesla, so excited owners will just have to wait for the automaker to roll out its annual holiday update.

Tesla has launched several updates in recent months. The latest, introduced in October, brought faster charging times, a revised infotainment system, and the ability to use Sentry Mode and Dog Mode simultaneously.

Thanks to the wonders of over-the-air technology, Tesla owners can constantly look forward to new and exciting updates, which should keep even older models feeling fresh and up to date. Hopefully, the company throws in some new safety and comfort features for good measure.
