Low volume run of 300-hp hot-hatch will start next year.
Hot hatches littered the Geneva Motor Show floor this year, with the Honda Civic Type R, Audi S1 Quattro and Abarth 695 Biposto amongst the best on display. But the Opel Astra OPC Extreme was arguably the pick of the bunch. Good news then that the German pocket rocket has been approved for production. That’s according to Autocar who claims the UK variant of the spiky hot hatch – dubbed the Vauxhall Astra VXR Extreme – will be produced in a very limited run of anywhere between 50 and 300 units depending on demand.
Opel will doubtless follow suit with a model for Europe, with a production variant tipped to arrive at Geneva next year. The Extreme is described as a track car for the road, based on the Astra OPC Cup car with a 2.0-liter turbo-four sending 300 horsepower via a six-speed manual, Brembo brakes, and a stripped-out interior.
