News about the latest film in the Fast & Furious franchise, "Furious 8," has been trickling out for months now. We recently learned that the movie was planning to shoot a massive explosion in Iceland and that the crew could head to Cuba as well. The biggest piece of news about the upcoming flick broke today, with the franchise's official Twitter account announcing that Charlize Theron had joined the cast for "Furious 8." The tweet had a picture of Theron and called her the crew's "greatest adversary."

Since Theron will be the villain in the movie that opens the door up for the returning Jason Statham (aka Deckard Shaw) to join the team as a good guy. Or maybe Theron will bust him out of that ridiculous underground jail he's in. Whatever, it doesn't really matter. According to Variety, the idea of casting the South African beauty came about early on. She was approached as the script was being written but decided to wait until a final draft was available. Once the draft was completed the actress apparently liked enough of what she read-and her schedule had opened up-that she took the role. Theron is easily the most accomplished member of the film's cast, having won a Best Actress Oscar in 2004 for the film "Monster."

Despite her serious acting chops Theron is no stranger to action flicks. She stole the show from Tom Hardy in "Mad Max: Fury Road" and also shot it out in "Aeon Flux." She's definitely more than a pretty face and we hope Vin Diesel and director F. Gary Gray let her kick some ass in "Furious 8." Maybe she could fight Michelle Rodriguez or...wait, are there any other women left in the crew for her to beat up?
