Impressively, the record time was set on a wet track.
Last year, Pagani presented the awe-inspiring Huayra Roadster BC. A swansong for Pagani's successor to the Zonda, Pagani's topless hypercar is limited to only 40 examples, each costing over $3 million. Now, over a year after its debut, Pagani is preparing the first examples for delivery.
To ensure the extraordinary hypercar meets customer expectations, Pagani has been putting the Huayra Roadster BC through its paces at the Spa Francorchamps in Belgium as part of its validation testing program to evaluate the aerodynamics and put the mechanical components under strain. Pagani wasn't aiming to break new lap records, but the car's phenomenal performance exceeded all expectations.
During testing, the high-performance Huayra Roadster BC posted a lap time of two minutes and 23.081 seconds, setting a new record at the circuit for globally homologated road cars. If this wasn't already impressive enough, the lap record was achieved on a damp track, which is a testament to the car's performance and handling prowess.
Pagani's testing regime for the track-focused roadster has been the most demanding yet for any of the automaker's road cars. The hypercar underwent more than 350,000 kilometers (217,479 miles)of real-world testing. To refine the handling, 45,000 kilometers (27,961 miles) of testing was conducted on some of the world's most challenging racetracks along with additional testing on test benches and simulations. At Spa, the Huayra Roadster BC was pushed to its limits and was tested at extreme speeds a race car would normally be subjected to during evaluations.
After validation testing was completed, Pagani had some time left over on the final day to test the car's performance and set some fast lap times. Powering the Huayra Roadster BC is an AMG-sourced 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V12 producing a colossal 791 horsepower and 774 lb-ft of torque, which enabled the hypercar to set an impressive new lap record.
"During the tests, we immediately realized that the car was making interesting lap times," revealed Andrea Palma, Pagani's Development Test Driver. We quickly consulted with Horacio about the chance of some fast laps and, although the weather conditions were not the best, we even set the record at the racetrack after two rounds. The car had shown a formidable character, demonstrating its potential and moving with impressive ease. Although SPA Francorchamps is a complicated racetrack, the Roadster BC's handling and lateral grip exceeded all expectations."
