Founded in 1989 by Dan Panoz, this small sports car builder has always been about the vital basics: a relatively lightweight, rear-wheel-drive sports car with a powerful engine and a manual gearbox. Its creations include the Roadster and the Esperante. Since 1997, the Georgia, USA-based company has also taken part in motorsport events such as the American Le Mans and various other European programs.
And to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Esperante road car's initial launch, Panoz has just revealed a special edition Esperante Spyder model. The 25th Anniversary Edition features a radiant red aluminum body, carbon fiber accents, and a tan leather interior. Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8 with 430 horsepower, or a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 with either 575 or 800 hp. The latter number is not a typo. Other features include traction control, high-tech gauges, lightweight and fully adjustable carbon fiber sport seats, wood interior trim, and a race-inspired carbon fiber steering wheel. Pricing starts off at $181,320 and tops off at a whopping $229,000. Only 25 units will be produced.
