Has the whole world gone hybrid?!
Mercedes recently revealed the S500 Plug-In Hybrid, while last week Land Rover took the wraps off its Range Rover and RR Sport Hybrids. Then there's the next Mitsubishi Evo, which will be a 500hp hybrid, while Ferrari and Porsche have already embraced hybrid technology as being an integral part of future car building. With fear of falling (even further) behind, Peugeot has also been at work getting a hybrid model to market, and these first official images of the 208 Hybrid FE Concept show that it's almost ready.
The French carmaker plans to showcase the concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Visual differences from the regular 208 include a rear diffuser, a set of aerodynamic 19-inch alloys, no door handles, and cameras that replace exterior mirrors. The powerplant consists of the hatchback's 1.0-liter bored out to 1.2 liters combined with a 40-hp electric motor. Reports suggest the concept weighs in 200 kg less than the base 208 thanks to the use of composite materials and a smaller 20-liter fuel tank. On electricity alone the 208 Hybrid has a 12-mile range, while the car can sprint from 0-62 mph in 8 seconds, return a 122.4-mpg and emit 49g/km of CO2.
