CEO claims Cambiano concept could reach production by 2014 with a potential price tag of 1 million Euros.
Design studio Pininfarina could be ready to launch their slick new 680hp plug-in hybrid EV coupe concept for an ultra-limited run. Speaking with Automotive News Europe at the concept's unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show, Pininfarina CEO Silvio Angori said: "We are evaluating the potential for companies and private buyers interested in a high-performance, low-emission luxury model such as the Cambiano."
Angori also said that if Pininfarina were to build ten units of the Cambiano, each would cost about one million Euros, and if the production run increased to 70-75, unit prices would drop to 400,000 Euros. It could take up to 2-and-a-half years to start production, and the diesel-fueled turbine in the concept would almost certainly be replaced by a conventional electric powertrain with a diesel-powered internal combustion engine as a range extender. The four in-wheel electric motors combined with the lithium-ion battery pack remain a viable option.
The Cambiano is capable of a 171mph top speed while producing just 45g/km of CO2 emissions. Pininfarina claim the concept has an 800km range, 205km of which can be done in full-electric mode, and can shoot from 0-62 mph in 4.2 seconds.
