Polestar is a unique company, and in a sea of electric automakers, that's no bad thing. The Swedish brand has been releasing exciting new designs and promising even more powerful and luxurious models in the future, most notable of which is the recently teased Polestar 5. But if you already own a Polestar, the company is still looking to make you happy with your purchase.

The Polestar 2 recently received the offer of free fast charging for two years, but the latest update is something more performance-oriented than practically minded. Long-range dual-motor models now get access to a tuning upgrade that bolsters performance by 67 horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torque.

Polestar 2 owners can access this upgrade by downloading it via an over-the-air update, and over 400 such upgrades have already been downloaded in its first weeks of availability since late November. It was first previewed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in July of this year.

"The upgrade highlights how connected technologies can transform the relationship a car company has with its customers," says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. "The driving experience in Polestar 2 is something we are really proud of. It is such a fun car to drive already, but with this upgrade, we can offer even more to our customers who might be after a little extra excitement."

Thanks to the software update, the top trim of the Polestar 2 can now get from 0-100 kph (62 mph) in just 4.4 seconds while accelerating from 80-120 kph (49-74 mph) in 2.2 seconds, half a second quicker than in the standard car. In total, you now have 469 hp and 502 lb-ft of torque. Unfortunately, it's not all good news. For the time being, the upgrade is only available in "selected European markets."

It's also not free and must be purchased from the Polestar Extras webshop at a cost of around €1,000, or roughly $1,120. Still, that's not bad for a notable performance upgrade that doesn't require any mechanical changes. Let's hope it becomes available domestically soon.
