Volvo's in-house tuning division, Polestar, is about to be on every car enthusiasts radar. It is rumored to be working on some insane 600-horsepower versions of the S90 sedan and V90 wagon. But Polestar is also showing love to the automaker's flagship SUV, the XC90, in the form of the Polestar Performance Optimization Package. This tune job ups the power of the SUV's T8 Twin Engine setup, a four-cylinder which features direct injection, a turbocharger, supercharger and an electric motor.

The Polestar Performance Optimization package is available for the S90 and V90 models, as well as the XC90 SUV. Power is increased from 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque to 421 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. These numbers are incredible when you remember that there's only a four-cylinder engine under the hood. It was only eight years ago that the Volkswagen Touareg needed a V10 diesel to get over 500 lb-ft of torque. With this new tune, the XC90 can hit 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and fuel economy is not affected. As part of the tune, the car will have better throttle response and the transmission will hold gears longer. The package will be available in the US come October and should be good enough to hold gearheads over until the full-blown Polestars debut.
