Polestar's Next Concept Remains A Mystery

Teaser / Comments

But we do know its name.

Polestar appears to be on a product offensive. A year ago, the Polestar 2 debuted at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The year prior, it was the limited production Polestar 1 hybrid coupe. The Polestar 2 will not be built in limited numbers and is set to directly do battle against the Tesla Model 3. But Polestar isn't done with 1 and 2. Eventually, there will be a Polestar 3 and a new concept set to debut just ahead of next month's Swiss show could preview that vehicle. The automaker has just released a single teaser image of the Precept Concept, though very few details have been provided.

The only information given was the following statement: "Precept: a rule intended to inform behavior or thought. In other words, a way of declaring how you mean to proceed. Starting as you mean to go on. Stating your intentions up top. A manifesto. It's also the name for something that takes all of our ambitions and combines them."

What we can see from the image shows just a darkened silhouette of the concept from above. Look closely and you'll notice Polestar's now trademark angled LED headlights and wraparound rear light bar. Polestar, which used to be part of Volvo, is trying hard to further distinguish itself with its own unique design language.

The Precept concept is further proof. Like all new Polestar models, we except this concept to ride on the same Compact Modular Architecture, or CMA, used for now only the Polestar 2, but also the Volvo XC40 and Volvo XC40 Recharge.

It will come powered by an updated version of the familiar 402 horsepower twin-motor powertrain. We'll know on February 25 at a private reveal event Polestar will hold whether or not the concept previews the Polestar 3 or another body style. We also expect to see the Precept in Geneva early next month.
