Pontiac added the G6 convertible back in 2006. It was interesting that it was a retractable hard top as opposed to the more traditional folding soft top. Available with the same features as the Coupe and Sedan, the Convertible was still not a suitable competitor to anything from Europe. Its closest competition was the Chrysler Sebring Convertible. The folding hard top was very easy for the driver to operate. With the push of a button, the top retracted and folded back into the trunk.
As typical with most hard tops, considerable weight was added to the car which in turn hurt fuel economy. Also, when the top was folded down, drivers lost a considerable amount of trunk space. Still, the car was affordable and made open-air road tripping adventures accessible to most everyone. The car also became a favorite on the rental car scene, making a great vacation car.
