The rear wheels were unceremoniously liberated.
When it comes to cars and bricks, the two don't usually mix well. This is especially true if you're unfortunate enough to come back to your car only to find that the wheels have been stolen and your pride and joy has been left resting on the building material. We've seen this happen to a C8 Corvette earlier this year and one dealership even suffered six-figure losses from this act of criminality too. As sad as it is seeing the wheels stolen off a Chevy or any other car, it's all the more poignant when it happens to a rare beast like the Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series.
Sadly, that's exactly what happened to one London resident, as this car spotter reported via Instagram and YouTube. It seems that either the thieves got distracted before they could complete the job, didn't have the tools to jack the entire car up for the front wheels, or were only after the rears. Nevertheless, they got away with both of those rear wheels and tires, which are fatter and thus more valuable on the secondhand market. As some of the comments on the original post mention, it seems a bit reckless not to have locking wheel bolts on such a valuable car, but hindsight is always 20-20.
On the bright side, if the owner can afford a car like this, they can likely afford insurance to cover the cost of the damage, but that still doesn't change the fact that this is a terrible thing to go through. We only hope that the owner of the car is able to source a replacement pair of rear wheels, as original Black Series rims are surely not a common sight on Facebook Marketplace. This also goes to show that even in a bustling city like London, criminals can strike in the open. Best park your collector's item of a sports car in a locked garage next time.
