The Porsche 911, now in its eight generation, has to be one of the most recognizable and iconic sports cars of the 20th century, and it turns out that people love to modify them. Of course there are those who make these cars fast beyond belief, but there are also those gentle souls who like to add their unique flavor to the exterior of the 911. Porsche 911 art cars are an institution, and we've covered more than a few. From classic examples, all the way through to cars that have just rolled off the showroom floor, 911 art cars are still popular around the globe, as this example from South Africa proves.

World-renowned South African visual artist Nelson Makamo recently turned his brand-new 911 Carrera into a personal art piece. After falling in love with the 911 back in the 1980s, Makamo vowed to one day own one, and after an encounter with a modern version of the iconic sports car, an order was placed for a brand new Carrera in Jet Black metallic. Makamo then set out to hand-paint certain body panels, after which Porsche Centre Johannesburg had them finished with a clear coat and fitted the pieces professionally. The left side door panel insert features the inscription "Mma' which stands for 'mother' in Makamo's home language of Sepedi. Makamo says this is a dream come true: 'I always knew I was going to own a Porsche, I just never knew that my relationship with the brand would start this way - and it's only the beginning.' he said.

The interior of his custom Porsche features custom painted trimmings, door sills and larger art pieces on the front seat backs.

Toby Venter, CEO of Porsche South Africa, found the project motivational. "Working with Nelson Makamo has been inspirational and this commission is on a level we've never seen before. This is a truly bespoke art installation worthy of any gallery. In addition, it illustrates the lengths Porsche South Africa will go to; the creativity and flexibility of our team to accommodate a request as personal as this. Porsche customers have a virtually endless array of options available through Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur to make their Porsche completely individual, but then when a unique customer such as Nelson chooses to do something extraordinary, we are delighted to accommodate his wishes."
