Both of these could be in contention for best car of the decade.
It would be very difficult for us to pick two new cars that we would rather drive more than the Porsche 911 R and Aston Martin V12 Vantage S. There are more expensive and faster cars out there, but these two offer the purest driving experience and both will be nearly impossible to buy. Only 991 units of the 911 R were built, and they are all sold out. The Vantage will also be extremely limited, and only 100 units will make it to the US. Despite the fact that we'll likely never hop behind the wheel of either we still want to know which one is best.
Luckily, Chris Harris has been given access to both cars to review. Harris is a huge fan of the Aston Martin Vantage and the Porsche 911, so which one of these purist's dream versions will he prefer?
The Aston Martin is a wonderful car. The manual transmission in the new V12 S lets the drive have more control, although Harris didn't love the complexity of having so many forward gears on the seven-speed manual. On the other hand, he actually admitted that he wanted the Porsche to not be perfect. Unfortunately, after driving it around, he conceded that the 911 R may actually be the perfect 911. He claimed that Porsche, "hasn't forgotten what driving is all about."
