Porsche 918 Spyder Sent to the Valley of Fire

Supercar

Just ahead of its Frankfurt show debut, Porsche sends the 918 Spyder out for some hot weather testing.

The big reveal of the Porsche 918 Spyder is only a few months away, and the German automaker is busy putting the final touches on its all-new supercar before production begins. But this is no ordinary supercar, or at least anything like Porsche has built in the past. The 918 is a hybrid supercar, powered by a 4.6-liter V8 that’s rated at 608 horsepower paired with two electric motors for a combined output of 887 hp.

It can also run on electric power alone for a limited range. Porsche has very little doubt that it’ll sell each and every one made. For now, Porsche engineers have taken test mules for final shakedown testing in the Valley of Fire outside of Las Vegas. Hopefully those batteries won't catch fire in the heat.
