Released back in 2006, the Disney Pixar movie Cars was successful enough to spawn two sequels, two spin-offs, a television series, and an entire section of Disney's California Adventure theme park. The main trilogy is centered around Lightning McQueen, an anthropomorphic race car, voiced by Owen Wilson, who meets his love interest Sally Carrera, a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera voiced by Bonnie Hunt.

To mark Sally's 20-year birthday, Porsche has teamed up with Pixar to create the movie design on a brand-new 992 generation Carrera. What began as a "what if?" project is now becoming a reality.

Design sketches for the project were revealed at the 2022 South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas, and work on the car has already begun at Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur in Zuffenhausen. Judging by the sketches, Porsche will recreate the baby blue color offered in the 996 generation (which Sally was based on) and build some unique wheels that harken back to the 2002 model. Of course, Sally will keep her pinstripe tattoo under the rear wing. Sadly, the 996's fried egg headlights won't be recreated on the 992.

Disney's website specifies that Sally has a 3,596 cc (3.6-liter) flat-six engine, yielding a 4.9-second 0-60 mph time and a 177 mph top speed. Sally's original engine produced just 320 horsepower, but this new version will get a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six producing 379 hp. With the help of turbocharging and a quick-shifting eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, the 992 takes just four seconds flat to hit 60 mph with a 182 mph top speed.

Inside, the updated Sally model will get a clean, light interior with custom blue accents from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. The design sketches show what looks to be a manual gear lever, which is currently only available on the Carrera S. Either it's just a mistake, or this could be the first (and only) 992 base Carrera with a seven-speed manual.

While it's not a confirmation, a Porsche spokesperson confirmed to CarBuzz this could be a possibility. "We wanted to give a glimpse into the creative process as it's happening," she explained. "And even though it's obviously been discussed, it's not been decided yet. More to come in the months ahead."

"We wanted to help, somehow, and as a team we realized we could perhaps harness what we were working on to raise money. The whole project began with the premise that Sally's character was devoted to helping others and it seems right that this should continue 20 years on," explained Jay Ward, Creative Director of Franchise at Pixar Animation Studios. "We are, for the first time ever, going to build a brand new, street legal Porsche 911 inspired by the special character we created - Sally Carrera. Only one will ever be made. It will be auctioned with all proceeds specifically aimed to help children, supporting education programs for young girls in the US through Girls Inc. and refugee families fleeing Ukraine, predominately women and children."

"The majority of those forced to flee Ukraine are women and children, among them unaccompanied children and those separated from their parents," said Anne-Marie Grey, Executive Director and CEO of USA for UNHCR. "But there is reason to hope with the critical support of companies like Porsche and Pixar Animation Studios who have generously stepped up to help ensure their safety and protection in months to come."

More information about the car will come later this year.
