The Boxster is the entry-level car for Porche. Available only as a convertible, it has a standard 2.7 liter flat-6 with 255 horsepower. A 3.4 liter flat-6 with 310 horsepower is optional in the Boxster S. Originally introduced in 1996, the Boxster has been a major sales success for the brand, mainly due to an affordable base price, which starts at $48,500. Once the options begin to add up (including the better engines) and the price will quickly creep up to around $62,000.

There are two transmission choices available: a standard six-speed manual and now the seven-speed dual-clutch PDK. When comparing the Boxster against the 911, you have to remember that the Boxster goes back to Porsche's origins, which is that of a lightweight high performing two-seat roadster. Currently in its second generation, Porsche is in the process of developing an all-new Boxster to be released soon.
