Finally, spy shots of the electric Porsche Boxster have emerged. This time, Porsche has taken the Boxster for some winter testing. Our spies report Porsche was working out the EV Boxster's kinks in temps as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Obviously, with cold weather affecting the range of an electric car, this is an important stage in the next Boxster's development.

The first photos of the new purely electric Boxster indicate the car will share some similarities with the gas cars, especially in profile. However, it appears the rear end of the Boxster EV will be significantly wider to accommodate some serious rubber.

This looks almost like a body kit, as the Boxster's rear widens starting at the front fenders. The doors appear to be typical Boxster, but the side sills rise up to those newly flared haunches. From the rear, the car looks typical of the current-gen Boxster, including the tail lights and rear deck. There is, however, some kind of new third brake light design at the back.

Perhaps a larger trunk will be in order given the car's now electric powertrain. Regardless, we see more evidence of this at the font, where Porsche's new headlights for this model closely mimic the shape of the only other all-electric Porsche, the Taycan.

The lower fascia of the car is slightly different from the existing 718 lineup, featuring horizontal strakes across the car's air intakes. This seems to be where Porsche has fitted the radiators for the car. It appears the face of the Boxster will be a bit taller as well, which could hint at the placement of the car's electric motors.

Porsche has already said the electric 718 will feel mid-engined, but we don't want to rule out a "Boxster 4" with AWD. For now, three power levels are said to be available, and Porsche has reportedly picked 2024 for the car's launch.
