100,000 Porsche Taycan Models Have Now Been Made

The 100,000th example, a Neptune Blue Turbo S, has rolled off the production line.

Porsche has produced its 100,000th example of the Taycan, a significant achievement having only entered production in September 2019. The vehicle in question, a Neptune Blue Turbo S, will head to a lucky customer in the United Kingdom.

The Porsche Taycan has become a great success for the Zuffenhausen-based firm. Despite an eye-watering base price of $86,700, it's proven popular among those with big wallets and an environmental conscience. In January, the electric sedan managed to outsell every ICE-powered car combined, in Norway.

"We are very pleased to have reached this milestone in production history so quickly - despite the recent challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage and the volatile Covid situation. With the Taycan, we have made a decidedly successful start in the electric age," said Porsche's Kevin Giek.

Over that time, certain Taycan owners have also reached the 100,000 mark - albeit in miles and kilometers. Transport entrepreneur Jean-Hubert Revolon often covers up to 745 miles a day as he uses his Taycan 4S to blitz across Europe. Since acquiring the vehicle in August 2020, the car has amassed a considerable 116,891 miles.

Aside from a faulty suspension sensor, the electric Porsche has worked flawlessly, and Revolon considers it to be the most reliable car he's ever owned.

Dyed-in-the-wool Porsche aficionado Guillaume Takvorian owns a 911 but was won over by the charm of the electric Taycan. "I love the sound of my 911 Targa, but over a long distance, the silence in the Taycan is very pleasant," said the pharmacist. "It's just fun to drive the Taycan."

The Marseille resident acquired his Volcano Grey 4S by chance. A quick test drive cemented his love, and, in June 2020, he took delivery. Now, the car has 70,822 miles under its belt. A noisy fan wheel has been the sole issue and was replaced under warranty.

Porsche employee Markus Kreutel also uses his Taycan Turbo company car to cover long distances. Since February 2021, the CEO of Porsche Toolmaking has covered 83,829 miles and still feels as good as new. Aside from the mesmerizing performance, Kreutel is deeply impressed with the Taycan's mile-munching capabilities and build quality.

As with the other Taycans, this particular model also suffered a minor issue - the plastic cover on the tailgate lock fell off. Kreutel added that the battery has plenty of life left in it. "The battery still had 91% of its original capacity."

However, it's not all sweetness and light. Kreutel says poor charging infrastructure remains a problem. "One trip in Romania has stuck in my memory. The first charging station in Timisoara, which I pulled into at 2 am, unfortunately, didn't work. The next station in Arad was on an unlit side street."

The lack of charging points remains a problem in America and many experts believe it's one of the biggest reasons people won't purchase an EV as their next car. Berkeley professor David Rempel said earlier this year that the charging infrastructure needs to operate flawlessly.

"People [shouldn't] point ... and say 'I'll wait to move to an EV until the system is better... we shouldn't be dumping a lot of money into infrastructure that leads to a poor system."

It's not just owners that push their Taycans to the limit. Germany's Auto Bild publication put a Frozen Blue Taycan 4S through its paces with accelerated durability testing. Between October 2020 and November 2022, the vehicle covered 62,137 miles and impressed the team immensely.

"An electric Porsche has to be a Porsche from the very first moment, and that's what the Taycan is. Our test proves that long-distance driving is absolutely possible with electric power," said Editor-in-Chief Tom Drechsler.

Auto motor und sport is conducting a similar experiment with a Mamba Green Taycan 4 Cross Turismo and hopes to cover the same amount of distance soon.

More electric models are expected from the automaker, and we only expect demand for Porsche-badged EVs to soar in the coming years. There will always be a place for the 911, it seems, but the Taycan has shown us what an electric car can be - fun, thrilling, comfortable, and durable.
