2022 marks the 50-year anniversary of the founding of Porsche Design. In celebration, the brand revealed a special version of the Porsche 911 Targa that came with its own watch. This new sports car looks fantastic alongside its forebear from the Seventies, but what if you want a retro watch without the car? Well, the anniversary celebrations are far from over at Porsche Design, and it has just revealed another exciting timepiece that celebrates half a century of style. The new watch is called the Chronograph 1 - All Black Numbered Edition. Just take a couple of moments to take in its simplistic design before we talk about its scandalous cost.

Like the original from 1972, the limited edition comes with a matte black dial. Refinements to the design include the addition of a crown, clasp, and dial with the current Porsche Design logo. At the back, a sapphire-crystal case back proudly shows off the Porsche Design winding rotor. The tachymeter and date display show off the current Porsche Design lettering too, but the minute hand "features the unmistakable rectangular shape of the original baton hands, updated with a pointed tip for the most precise indication on the surrounding minute dial." To keep it in one piece, the case is made of titanium and has a titanium carbide coating. The strap is also made of titanium, as is the clasp.

So how limited is this limited edition? Porsche Design says that only 1,000 units will be made every year at its Solothurn, Switzerland watchmaking facility. For those who have been accustomed to buying limited-production Porsche Design watches for some time, a watch case is also available and features a vintage tachometer from a classic Porsche. A pair of plaques sit on either side of this, showing the evolution of Porsche Design timepieces from 1972 until now. With space for all seven of these magnificent timepieces, and the latest retailing for $10,500. you have to be a serious Porsche fan to buy it.
